Facebook Annoyance is Approaching the Myspace Level. Sad day.

It's finally happened, guys.
Unfortunately, those annoying people on Myspace made the move to Facebook at the same time everyone else did. It was OK for a while, because Bulletins were gone and Statuses can be hidden. But there is one trend that's started up, that I just want to be done with already: "Like" pages (formerly known as "Fanpages").

"Like" pages, for those of you who aren't in the world of Facebook, or maybe just don't know, are pages on Facebook that you have the option to "Like". Some of them, in my opinion, are acceptable. For example, I like things I really, really relate to. Some of my "liked" pages include:

- Sprinkles Cupcakes
- North Texas Students for a Parking Solution
- StarKid Potter
- to party (it's clever; on your News Feed it'll read "Bob Jones likes to party.")
- Texts From Last Night

But the pages that just get on my NERVES are the ones that look like they were written by someone in the 7th grade, and have no real value at all. I mean, sure, I know no one probably cares that I love Sprinkles cupcakes and StarKid Potter, but for some reason I feel like it's better than liking "Unicorns aren't real, they're fat and grey and we call them rhinos", or "F*ck you, f*ck you! Can I have a kiss? Yeah. :)"

Maybe I'm just being selfish for thinking that these pages are completely unnecessary. No one needs to know that you like to verbally abuse your significant other before asking for affection. And the unicorn post? Yeah, it's funny, and if it were a status I'd probably "like" it. But it's something about those "like" concepts that just throws me off. I think it's the fact that I have friends that like to "like" 20 pages at one time, thus filling my News Feed with stories of how they like "Dear Pringles : I can't fit my hand inside your tube of deliciousness".

By all means, tell Facebook how Pringles cans are inconveniently shaped. But maybe, do it and it alone? It won't be the end of the world if you don't spend all day on the computer pressing that little "like" button; I promise those pages will be just fine without you.

  1. umm I agree completely. I used to do all this, but I deleted all the ridiculously stupid ones and kept the ones that I really do relate to. And yes, it does get very annoying. I'm right there with you 100% and I'm sure a lot more people are too. Let's start a "like" page saying, NO MORE LIKE PAGES! haha how hypocritical. :)

  2. I "like" this ;) You're 100% correct. It's gotten out of hand. There's even a page "I like to like pages on facebook".
